After an incredible success of their debut album, The Awesome Wave, the English outfit Alt-J now return with a new LP, This Is All Yours (out Sept 22). Listen to the first single off it, ‘Hunger of the Pine’, which features a sample of Miley Cyrus singing ‘I’m a female rebel’ from her ‘4×4’ song. Classic smoky tune.
Canadian musician Daniel Snaith, better known as Caribou, has just announced his new album, Our Love, which will be out on October 6th. Here is the first song from it, ‘Can’t Do Without You’. Subtle vocals go here perfectly with the melodic, bubbling synths. Lovely track which charmingly evolves along the way 🙂
English singer Anna Calvi and David Byrne (Talking Heads) teamed up to record a cover of ‘Strange Weather’, originally by Keren Ann. The song will be released on 14th July as a part of the 5 track covers EP, produced by Thomas Bartlett, who previously collaborated with bands such as The National i Antony and the Johnsons. Haunting cover and you will definitely hear strong Anna Calvi’s influence here.

Watch the new, animated Metronomy’s video for ‘Reservoir’ from their latest album, Love Letters. The cartoon was directed by Daniel Brereton. The abstraction of of the song and video quite reminds of another band’s hit, ‘The Look’ from The English Riviera LP.

Canadian electropop group Austra are back with a new EP Habitat and here is the title track from it. Very deep electronic tune, uplifting vibe and haunting vocals from Katie Stelmanis. Magic, magic!

The boys from Django Django are not idling time away. While working on their second album they found time to record a nice cover of ‘Porpoise Song’ (originally by The Monkees from 1968). Gentle psychedelic journey. And those vocals! Beautiful. ❤
The song will be released on the band’s ‘Late Night Tales’ mix, which comes out on May 12.

San Francisco-based Thee Oh Sees have unveiled not-surprisingly psychedelic, animated video for ‘The Lens’ from their upcoming record ‘Drop’ (out April 19). Surreal visuals perfectly go together with classic, orchestral bassline and soft vocals. Good one!

This new rework from Todd Terje is unreal. ‘Johnny And Mary’, originally performed by Robert Palmer, takes here totally different dimension with subtle beats and vocal contribution from Bryan Ferry. You would never guess it’s actually Todd Terje’s work. Mesmeric, beautiful cover!

And one more gem from Mr Albarn – ‘Mr. Tembo’, which is a happy tribute to… an elephant. Yes, Mr. Tembo is an orphaned baby elephant that Albarn met during his recent travel to Tanzania. The elephant must have been a sweet thing as the song is definitely much more upbeat and joyous than anything else released off ‘Everyday Robots’ to date. Emotional, delightful story. Awesome!

Neneh Cherry has teamed up with another Swedish music icon Robyn and here is the fruit of that collaboration. ‘Out Of The Black’ is the lead single on Neneh’s new album ‘Blank Project’ (produced by Four Tet), her first solo LP since 1996. The urban collage video was created by artist Dario Vigorito, aka 241-24-7.

Very nice 8-minute long track from Friendly Fires in collaboration with Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay (aka the Asphodells). ‘Before Your Eyes’ is the first single from the British band since their 2011’s Pala. Definitely more hypnotic and psychedelic than their previous productions, still very impressive though.
Ah Sweden, Sweden, you spoil us again. Yet another gem from the north. Lykke Li has shared her new, nostalgic track ‘Du är den ende’ taken from the soundtrack for the new Swedish crime thriller ‘Tommy’, where she also appears as an actress. The movie is directed by Tarik Saleh.
One more reason to love Sweden: Amason. This great collaborative project features some of the best Scandinavian talents: Pontus Winnberg of Miike Snow, Gustaf Ejstes of Dungen, Nils Törnqvist, Petter Winnberg of Little Majorette and Amanda Hollingby of Idiot Win. Watch the animated video for this supergroups’s latest single ‘Ålen’. Lovely track with angelic vocals.

LA-based singer Jillian Banks, simply known as Banks, has shared a new, very sensual video for her latest single ‘Brain’. Thrilling, surreal and mysterious visual experience. There’s some magic about this girl, worth keeping an eye on.
Shortly after ‘When Girls Collide’, múm have released another great track. Mellow ‘Saddle Up’ was one of the B-side songs on their latest limited edition disc, alas sold out now. Worth streaming though!

And another quite unexpected collaboration: Moby and Washed Out. Check out the Moby’s rework of ‘All I Know’. Not bad, although I personally prefer the original, more psychedelic, version. BUT, if you let it go on Soundcloud, there’s a nice playlist coming afterwards 😉
British musicians Brian Eno and Karl Hyde (Underworld co-founder) have recorded a collaborative album titled ‘Someday World’ (out May 6). Here’s the lead track off it, ‘The Satellites’ which already has got some negative backlash because of the synth horns. I think there’s a kind of charm in it though 🙂
American rock band Dum Dum Girls have released a short, 11-minute movie which features the song ‘Are You Okay?’ from their latest LP ‘Too True’. The thriller was written by Bret Easton Ellis and it stars Dee Dee, Shiloh Fernandez and Sophia Marzocchi. Pretty gloomy story!
