Anna Calvi, David Byrne – Strange Weather (Official Video)

English singer Anna Calvi and David Byrne (Talking Heads) teamed up to record a cover of ‘Strange Weather’, originally by Keren Ann. The song will be released on 14th July as a part of the 5 track covers EP, produced by Thomas Bartlett, who previously collaborated with bands such as The National i Antony and the Johnsons. Haunting cover and you will definitely hear strong Anna Calvi’s influence here.

British duo The 2 Bears have released a video for their new single ‘Angel (Touch Me)’, to be found on their forthcoming album The Night. The song itself with its very light, delicate beat could appear a bit boring, but the video is worth watching 🙂

Austra – Habitat

Canadian electropop group Austra are back with a new EP Habitat and here is the title track from it. Very deep electronic tune, uplifting vibe and haunting vocals from Katie Stelmanis. Magic, magic!

The four-track EP will be released on June 17.

The boys from Django Django are not idling time away. While working on their second album they found time to record a nice cover of ‘Porpoise Song’ (originally by The Monkees from 1968). Gentle psychedelic journey. And those vocals! Beautiful. ❤

The song will be released on the band’s ‘Late Night Tales’ mix, which comes out on May 12.

Jamie xx (known as a producer from The xx), has shared his new track titled ‘Girl’ which comes along with a fantastic, abstract video. The hypnotic electronic song with an impressive bassline will be out as a single on May 5 and apart from ‘Girl’, you’ll also find there b-side track, ‘Sleep Sound’. Both are just excellent, pure quality!

This new rework from Todd Terje is unreal. ‘Johnny And Mary’, originally performed by Robert Palmer, takes here totally different dimension with subtle beats and vocal contribution from Bryan Ferry. You would never guess it’s actually Todd Terje’s work. Mesmeric, beautiful cover!

The track appears on the forthcoming Todd Terje’s LP ‘Album Time’, out April 8.

Damon Albarn – Mr. Tembo

And one more gem from Mr Albarn – ‘Mr. Tembo’, which is a happy tribute to… an elephant. Yes, Mr. Tembo is an orphaned baby elephant that Albarn met during his recent travel to Tanzania. The elephant must have been a sweet thing as the song is definitely much more upbeat and joyous than anything else released off ‘Everyday Robots’ to date. Emotional, delightful story. Awesome!

Friendly Fires & The Asphodells – Before Your Eyes

Very nice 8-minute long track from Friendly Fires in collaboration with Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay (aka the Asphodells). ‘Before Your Eyes’ is the first single from the British band since their 2011’s Pala. Definitely more hypnotic and psychedelic than their previous productions, still very impressive though.

Ah Sweden, Sweden, you spoil us again. Yet another gem from the north. Lykke Li has shared her new, nostalgic track ‘Du är den ende’ taken from the soundtrack for the new Swedish crime thriller ‘Tommy’, where she also appears as an actress. The movie is directed by Tarik Saleh.

 

Amason – Ålen

One more reason to love Sweden: Amason. This great collaborative project features some of the best Scandinavian talents: Pontus Winnberg of Miike Snow, Gustaf Ejstes of Dungen, Nils Törnqvist, Petter Winnberg of Little Majorette and Amanda Hollingby of Idiot Win. Watch the animated video for this supergroups’s latest single ‘Ålen’. Lovely track with angelic vocals.

Inventions – Entity

In case you haven’t heard it yet, here’s something absolutely magnificent. Mark Smith (Explosions in the Sky guitarist) and composer Matthew Cooper, a.k.a. Eluvium, have created a new band called Inventions. ‘Entity’ comes from their self-titled LP which is set to be released quite soon, on April 1st. Wonderful, space, dreamy experimental ambient. If you ever got blown away by Sigur Rós, you’ll love it.

The Range – Slow Build

As a follow-up to his well received album ‘Nonfiction’, The Range (James Hinton), is back now. ‘Slow Build’ is opening his new EP (out March 24) with some lovely minimalist beats.

Lockah – Contact High Wit Big Lockah

Yet another talented British dj, Lockah, is about to release his debut album and here’s a little preview of it. Fabulous game of balearic synths and drifting melody. 4,45 min of holiday, you can afford it 🙂

The full 45-minute album, which consists of 13 tracks, will be out on April 14th.
